Just Keep Swimming – USA Swimming Meets Finding Nemo

I just watched a super cute PSA by USA Swimming in conjunction with the upcoming theater release of Finding Nemo in 3-D that I just had to share with you!

With the Olympics just days away (SQUEEEE), you will see Dana Vollmer, Natalie Coughlin, Kim Vandenberg and other members of  the US Olympic Swim Team put all their years of hard work to the test against the rest of the world.

Whether your child has Olympic aspirations or not, swimming is a fantastic way to stay fit, learn a life skill, and be a part of a really amazing sport. My kids have been swimming for the past four years and absolutely love it!

For more information on finding a swimming program near you, go to swimtoday.org. And for a fun quiz to see what kind of a swimmer you or your child is, take the USA Swimming Quiz.

2012 Womens US Olympic Team in Swimming

Olympic Swimmer Missy Franklin 2012 The past week of Olympic Trials coverage in swimming, gymnastics and track has been almost, if not more exciting, than the upcoming Olympic Games as far as I am concerned! And now with the gymnastics team named, it’s time to look at the swimmers a little more closely. The women’s 50m Freestyle just concluded with Dara Torres finishing out of the running in 4th place.  With the exception of the fifth- and sixth- place finishers in the 100 and 200 freestyle, who may may be added pending swimmers who have qualified in multiple events, the US Women’s Olympic Swim Team for 2012 looks like this (according to USA Swimming):

Haley Anderson – 10K Open Water
Elizabeth Beisel – 200 Backstroke, 400 IM
Dana Vollmer – 100 Fly, 800 Free Relay
Allison Schmitt – 400 Free, 200 Free, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay
Missy Franklin – 100 Free, 100m Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 200 Free, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay
Breeja Larson – 100 Breaststroke
Lauren Perdue – 800 Free Relay
Caitlin Leverenz – 400 IM , 200m IM
Cammile Adams – 200 Fly
Kathleen Hersey – 200 Fly
Claire Donahue – 100 Fly
Chloe Sutton – 400 Free
Rachel Bootsma – 100 Back
Rebecca Soni – 100 Breast, 200 Breast
Ariana Kukors – 200 IM
Micah Lawrence – 200 Breast
Jessica Hardy – 50 Free, 100 Free, 400 Free Relay
Lia Neal – 400 Free Relay
Katie Ledecky – 800 Free
Kate Ziegler – 800 Free
Amanda Weir – 400 Free Relay
Natalie Coughlin – 400 Free Relay
Shannon Vreeland – 800 Free Relay
Alyssa Anderson – 800 Free Relay
Kara Lynn Joyce – 50 Free

I watched 15 year old Katie Ledecky swimming the 800m freestyle and was simply in awe of her talent, maturity, and strength at such a young age! Add to that, Missy Franklin’s outstanding performances and we are in for some incredible swimming in London!

If the list above changes at all, I will definitely update the list, but for now, this looks like a great team for London! CONGRATULATIONS again to all the women who competed this past week at Trials. And let the countdown to London continue! Do you have your Team USA Olympic fan gear yet?
