Natural Post Workout Soreness Solution with LATHER’s Muscle Ease

Natural Soreness Relief with Muscle Ease by LATHER

Disclosure – I was sent this product to review and this post contains affiliate links. All opinions are 100% my own.

Athletes of all ages and levels deal with sore muscles and minor aches and pains on a regular basis. For some, just a little rest and stretching is all it needs but for others, a little more relief is needed.

Popular over-the-counter pain relieving creams contain methyl salicylate (and other inactive chemical ingredients), which can be synthetically manufactured or derived from wintergreen oil (which is highly toxic in its pure form). You may remember reading about a 17 year old track star who died from an accidental overdose of methyl salicylate while using BenGay.

LATHER, known for its natural products that are vegan and synthetic fragrance free, has created its own line of products specifically for relieving the pain associated with minor aches, pains and muscle stiffness resulting from physical activity. Their Muscle Ease Gel with botanical pain relievers provides fast acting relief on contact.

Muscle Ease Gel is formulated with centuries-old plant extracts used by the native tribes of Northern Mexico along with menthol, camphor and capsaicin to create a unique warming and cooling sensation.

Other features of LATHER’s Muscle Ease Gel:

  • Free of waxes, oils, parabens, sulfates, mineral oil and synthetic fragrance and colors.
  • Vegan
  • Both PETA and Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free

While I really like the Muscle Ease Gel to rub on sore muscles and joints after a work out, my daughter does not like the warming sensation as it almost feels too hot for her. She prefers the Muscle Ease Bath Salts which combines Himalayan and Epson salt along with aromatherapy to get her post-workout relief.

A few tips for using LATHER’s Muscle Ease Gel:

  • The product works best after your workout. I find that if you apply the gel prior to workout the additional blood flow and increased body temperature amplify the cooling and heating sensation too much.
  • Do not use in conjunction with an ice pack or heating pad. Wait until the Muscle Ease Gel has been fully absorbed and is no longer creating a cooling or warming sensation before you apply ice or heat.
  • Be sure to wash your hands well after apply the Muscle Ease Gel – you definitely do not want to rub this near your eyes or ingest it internally.
  • Do not apply more than 3-4 times per day.

While there many similar products on the market that provide temporary relief of muscle aches and pains (I also like Arnica gel and Biofreeze), the more of LATHER’s products I try, the more they are becoming my go-to brand for natural skincare and wellness products. The fact that they do not use synthetic fragrances is a huge factor in my decision making.

If you are looking for a natural product to relieve minor muscle aches, backaches, arthritis pain and stiffness as well and general joint pain, give LATHER a try. You will love the way their products smell and the quality ingredients they put into them.

College Golf Scholarships for Girls Going Unclaimed

girls golf scholarships going unused

A few weeks ago my daughter (a rising high school junior) and I headed to our local driving range to hit off a few buckets of golf balls on a Sunday morning. While taking our turns, the owner of the range stopped out to say hello and he was somewhat surprised to see the Mother-Daughter team we made. He gave us some tips on our strokes and we talked about high schools, high school sports and of course, golf.

After watching my daughter hit golf ball after golf ball, he asked if she played high school golf. She said she had not thought about it before (she cheers for football season and swims during winter), but may now consider it. The golf pro then shared a little tidbit with her and her whole outlook changed!

According to the LA Times, the National College Athletic Assn. (NCAA) estimates that every year 200 college golf scholarships for young women go unclaimed. Too few girls compete in the sport to qualify for these scholarships, which means many young women are missing an opportunity that could make all the difference to their education, their income and their future.

Golf is a sport that all ages can enjoy and if you have a girl who is showing interest, sign her up for a camp, find some local junior golf clinics in your area and when she gets to high school age, encourage her to play high school golf. You just might discover a hidden talent and open up new opportunities!

How to Coach Your Athlete at Home

Gymnastics Takes Balance

I read an article by Asha Forster Grebenik this week titled “How to Coach Your Gymnast at Home” – it honestly should be required reading for all sports parents – feel free to substitute your child’s sport for the gymnastics references in the post – and for that matter all parents in general! From her post…

Your gymnast does gymnastics at home. All the time. In every room. And you’ve watched enough gymnastics to know that certain things she’s doing are incorrect. So how do you make these corrections at home? You don’t. Let me repeat that. Do. Not. Coach. Your. Child. At. Home. Nothing will make your child’s coach cringe internally more than hearing that you worked on x, y, or z at home. You are not her coach. Don’t do it. Don’t even tell her to point her toes.

As sports parents most of us are guilty of “trying” to help our athlete at home – we think we are helping – we think we know what they need to hear – but guess again. As sports parents our job is to get our kids to practice, support them at meets, keep them fueled, and be their biggest fan.

So next time you feel the urge to make a correction from the bleachers, in the car or in you own home – STOP – DON”T DO IT. Instead, give your athlete a hug and let her know you are so proud of all her hard work!
