2012 Visa Championships for Gymnastics
Television alert!! The 2012 Visa Championships for Gymnastics will be televised this afternoon on NBC and it is going to be exciting to watch! After Day 1 of the meet, reigining National Champion Jordyn Wieber – who is also considered to be the “It Girl” in the media this summer, is TIED for the lead with Gabby Douglas. Gabby actually scored higher than Jordyn earlier this year at the American Cup but since Gabby was competing exhibition, her scores didn’t count. So who is going to come out on top this afternoon? I can’t even guess!
Right behind Jordyn and Gabby by mere hundreths of a point is Aly Raisman, followed by Kyla Ross, Elizabeth Price and Sarah Finnegan.
While former Olympians Shawn Johnson and Chellsie Memmel have officially been removed from the 2012 Olympic Team mix, Nastia Liukin and Alicia Sacramone are still pushing hard for their spots on the team as event specialists. Nastia is looking to help out the team on Bars and Beam while Alicia is a known force on Vault and solid on Beam, too. Below is Nastia’s Beam routine from Day 1 of the Visa meet:
The next and final step for these girls is Olympic Trials in a few weeks. So, who do you think will make the 2012 Olympic Gymnastics Team for the USA?
