Behind Every Olympian There is a Family

Chellsie Memmel

iVillage and Johnson & Johnson just launched a really neat series on the iVillage website called the Family Room. In the Family Room they feature videos, journal entries, and photos of eight Olympic hopefuls and discuss the impact their families have on their training, success and future plans in their respective sports.

Featured athletes and their families include:

  • Soccer player Tina Ellerston
  • Gymnasts and brothers Paul & Morgan Hamm
  • Shot putter Reese Hoffa
  • Gymnast Chellsie Memmel
  • Brother and sister team of Steven Mocco (wrestling) and Katie Mocco (judo)
  • Track star Lauryn Williams

I watched the video of Chellsie being coached by her Dad with interest as I am getting ready to face the challenge and opportunity to coach my own daughter in the upcoming season. The Memmels’ seem to have a really good balance and sense of respect for the entire situation.

Check out the videos and the pictures and then cheer on these athletes as they continue along their journey to the Olympic games.

Summer Swim Team

summer swim team

Summer swim team starts tomorrow! My daughter is so excited – she has even memorized her meet schedule. As a Mom, my hope is that she loves summer swim, makes some new friends, and wins a few ribbons along the way.

She went through a bit of a growth spurt this spring and some of her practice suits were getting snug. Last week we ordered 3 new practice suits from Speedo since they always have great deals on their clearance suits. The suits arrived in just a few days and they even sent a pair of goggles for free.

Look for updates as the season goes on.
