She Wants to be a Swimmer
A few years ago my youngest daughter took swim lessons. When she started, she was terrified to put her face near the water or do much of anything in the water actually. Thanks to a creative and patient teacher, Miss N became a confident fish in a span of 6 weeks. Her teacher knew just how to encourage her to take the next step and how to get her to try new things without realizing it. She also commented on how Miss N is a natural in the water and has a very strong kick.
This summer Miss N spent every possible opportunity in the water. She basically figured out how to do the “Spiderman Crawl” (one step up from the Doggie Paddle) on her own. Her advances this summer have fueled her passion for the water.
In September she started asking about swim team. She will be 6 in a few months and while I am not sure she is ready for competitive swimming quite yet, she is definitely showing the right signs. Luckily for Miss N, she has a swimmer’s body – my guess is that she will be at least 5′ 10″ – all arms and legs. She has asked about swimming every single day since then. We had to wait until other schedules were firmed up, but finally I was able to get her in for an evaluation for classes.
She loved doing her trial and cannot wait for her next set of classes to start in a few weeks. When we got home she asked if I would get her a suit and goggles like the “real swimmers” wear. I guess the Target one-piece from this past summer won’t do any longer. We went to SwimLocker.com and checked out all the suits. She chose a colorful suit from the Dolfin Winner Prints line and we ordered it.
She can’t wait for her new suit to arrive and her class to begin. It is so much fun watching a child find a sport they really love!
