Nastia Liukin Wins 2008 Tyson American Cup

USA’s Nastia Liukin won the 2008 Tyson American Cup today at Madison Square Garden in New York. Liukin topped the field of 8 in the all around and on bars. Up and comer Shawn Johnson (USA) continues to make her mark, winning the vault, beam and floor titles while placing second on bars and all around. Samantha Peszek (USA) placed third and Shayla Worley (USA) placed fourth. Rounding out the field in places 5-8 were Joeline Mobius (GER), Jessica Lopez (VEN), Alyssa Brown (CAN) and Nathalia Sanchez (COL).

The Tyson American Cup is just another stop on the road to the Beijing Olympics to be held in August 2008. I fully expect to see Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson, Sam Peszek and Shayla Worley on the US Olympic team as long as they each stay healthy.
