I think it's very easy for athlete's to get burned out in the first few weeks back at school. They went from the slow ease of summer to full speed, seemingly overnight. Parents and coaches have to respect that it might take a few weeks for athletes to get back in the swing of things.

Great article,

I like to prepare my daughter by begining to talk about the new school year casually a few weeks before.

At back to school I outline completely her fall cycling and volleyball schedule, the spring track schedule and possiblities for 2 missed days during he entire school year because of the sports. They are always very understanding and appreciative. Her teachers have been a great encouragment when they find out she is active in after school sports and a straight A student too.

Now that my daughter is older I ask her for input to make her expereince a good one and she has very good input now. It empowers her and helps me too!
